I started getting high B/P readings in @ 2004. I got in under control and kept it there. Was taking the baby aspirin everyday and I thought everything was fine.
Fast forward to last October. I was going to have some minor surgery done and had a pre-op appointment at a hospital in Texarkana. Was my birthday too and we had plans to get a steak dinner before heading home. Since it we were going to eat dinner early, we barely ate anything that morning. So as part of the pre-op tests they ran an ekg. Had them before my hip(2) and knee replacement so I wasn't concerned. When the tech ran it he said Uh-oh. He ran it again and said there was an arrhythmia. Sent me down the hall to the head nurse who put me in a wheelchair and took me to the ER., which of course with covid, was out the door. They got me right in for another ekg. Atrial fibrillation. Instead of my heart going bump, bump when it beat it was only doing the first bump. The only thing that was keeping the beat in check was the B/P med I take is a beta blocker. Waited in a room for hours. Really hungry by then and with the steak housed closing so my wife brought some McD's in. Heck of a birthday dinner. The whole deal shook me up, I mean to tell you. My cardiologist says not to worry and I don't, but I can tell my wife does. Now on a blood thinner, probably forever. See the doc next month and he is going to run some kind of tests. I'm 71 and though I'm still overweight I've been slowly losing for over a year and thought I was in pretty good health. You just never know.
One thing though is I told the cardiologist and my PCP I was talking to a guy about driving a truck part time and they both said that the A-Fib won't keep me from passing and get a 1 year card.

That’s good they found it. A lot of people never know they have it. My heart beat used to always be erratic. They could never find anything. It was anxiety, panic attacks. I ignored them, and eventually it all but disappeared. I had it from 17 yrs old till I was about 35 or 40. It was very unpredictable. Glad it went away. I worked with a Guy who had the first open heart surgery to repair a hole in his heart, at U of M when he was 27 yrs old. Around 1950. He also was type 2 diabetic. He was in a coma for 6 mos. at 80 yrs of age. Came out of it, and Drove till he was 84. The company he was Leased to Insurance wouldn’t cover him anymore. Otherwise he would have kept working. We had all heard he’d died. Till one day someone saw him at a rest area!!! Said he thought he was seeing a ghost!! Lol. He used to say, he made his first house from a tool shed rolled down on 2 logs. I guess it’s true. But I’ve since heard a country song with the same lyrics. Lol. The guy was a real Character, Old Grampa Jack. RIP.

I meant to thank you, for the info on changing CDL status to exempt intrastate. I was scrambling to figure out a way of avoiding losing my CDL, till I get my new card. Found the info somewhere on here. Thanks again, that info was a great help.

You can do "Excepted Intrastate" or "Excepted Interstate". If you're not going to drive in one of the excepted categories it makes no difference. I did IntERstate because, even though I'm not driving, I just didn't want that "K", Intrastate Only, restriction on the back of my license.

I only saw the one choice on Michigans website. Supposedly I can change it back, and upload my card, to self certify. The only criteria was if I “ thought” I would be changing my type Driving. My wife License expires next mo. Mine in March. Appointments only to renew. I should be ok with the intrastate exemption, I’m hoping anyways. Can’t take many more surprises. Geez!!

Well, you know what they say, @Dave_in_AZ , if you give up smoking and drinking and sex, you don't necessarily live any longer, it just seems that way.
Happy to hear the results. Party on Garth.
