there is a product you could coat the circuit boards with that would protect it if dropped in water. I realize you might still have points of entry like the microphone and speaker. You wouldnt be able to coat certain contacts like the cards and or ribbon cable connectors. I have a small basket of old phones. Maybe Ill try a couple products and report back

It would probably be easy for the manufacturers to waterproof but that would decrease sales

Had a life proof water proof case. You could drop it in water. Worked great. Except no one could here me talk on it.

Problem with coating everything is heat dissipation. If even the normally cool running chips like the radio can't shed heat thanks to a coating it will quickly burn itself out.
