Hello, thank you for reading and answering.
I moved to Oregon and I tried calling the DMV but "all their circuits are busy. Goodbye." I have an appointment to get an new medical cert and then I am going to the DMV. I can't find a straight answer on if I have to take any tests aside from the standard non commercial written test since I am surrendering my license. From what I can see, it seems like I just have to surrender my license and take the written for the standard test with no skills test.
Does experienced trucker know?

But that was before covid.
I guess now everything is done by appointment.bentstrider83 Thanks this. -
I switched my Colorado class A to Oregon class A 6 years or so ago and all I had to do was take the motorcycle written test to keep my M endorsement. No tests for the license itself. I only remember that because I failed the motorcycle test. Had to read the manual study and then go back before I switched my license to Oregon.

I guess every state's different. When I moved to NM from CA back in 2012, I switched everything over with no issue. The only written test I had to retake was the HAZMat and that was it.
Of course if I plan on having to relocate to another state for whatever reason, I try to see which state is easiest when it comes to switch-overs. AZ and CO are split between where I might have to go next. -
CA and IL are the only 2 states that require you to retest in a CMV to transfer your CDL, that I know of

I paid $200.00 to a school to let me take the test in their short tractor with 48' trailer.
So I've taken the test in the 2 states that would require it.Last edited: Jan 24, 2021
