    Its a weird market now. I am trying to find household drivers and distribution drivers and it's ridiculously hard.

    Do you require a year experience to move household goods?
    Several drivers on this forum have asked about that. They want to run OTR, but the only jobs for new cdl school grads are box trucks, local or intrastate moves.

    We will train the right people. We require 5000 miles and we combine that with the training. It gives you a feel for what you are getting in to. Most new drivers for household have a household background. It's rare to see someone just decide one day to try it. It's hard work, but it's worth it. Like I stated before, we will train the right person. If someone gets out of school and has the want and drive to go for it , I will do everything I can to help them be successful.

    You mention retirement. If you are typical retirement age, TMC is not going to hire you. They are going through the motions because they have to to avoid law suits. But in the end you will be denied and they will say its because they found a better applicant for the position.

    They will never say that they didn't hire you because of your age, but that's why.

    Flatbed is hard physical labor. They use a predictive software in their hiring process that tracks the success of new drivers, experienced drivers, old drivers, young drivers, male and female drivers. Their software algorithms say that middle age guys are a bad bet. You'll throw your back out, fall off the truck, screw your knees up or whatever and end up on the walking wounded list....being just another workman's comp liability.

    They do make exceptions for middle-aged guys with a lot of experience, or possibly if you are a construction worker or something that requires even more physical labor, but the exceptions are few and far between.

    Ya know, TS, I think you're on to something.
    Over the past several weeks I've emailed the recruiter I initially talked to and I get no response.
    That's fine.
    Upon further consideration I'm seeing that TMC might not be the best option for me. Do I really wanna do flatbed? No. I really want to drive food-grade tanker.
    Right now I'm looking seriously into Wilson Logistics out of Missoula; they seem to have top training, too, which obviously is a priority.
    Thoughts on Wilson?
