Trailer lease for new Owner Operator, who will lease to me?

    I have a new authority, and it is just me and my 1 truck. I'm looking to lease a 53' dry van but have not had much luck. I've called the trailer leasing companies in my area (Indianapolis). Premier said that they require 2 years operation, and XTRA does not lease to owner operators. I could probably rent a trailer through Ryder or Penske for $300 a week plus 7 cents a mile, but this seems pretty expensive. Any ideas?

    Power Only until you get a trailer, JB keeps sending me emails about needing power only trucks.

    I'm looking at power only, but there seems to be very little PO freight. JB requires 3 months authority, and Schneider 6 months. What's left appears to be loadouts.

    No, I figured I might as well jump in head first. I knew there would be problems. I talked to a few dealers a while ago, new dry vans are several months out. So I decided that leasing a trailer in the meantime would be the way to go. I guess that's not the case.

    Keep looking. Keep calling every trailer place. You will find there somewhere that you can rent a trailer or maybe a company will lease one to you. Of course some of this depends on your credit but there are some places that you will find that you just give them a deposit and you won't need the credit. Also look on craigslist and Facebook. The only problem I found with those deals is that sometimes the places they would actually rent you a trailer want you to be responsible for all of the maintenance and if anything breaks on the trailer while you have it. That something you have to discuss in depth with them before you sign an agreement.

    I am not sure that JB requires 3 months for the power only program. That may be just for pulling freight off of the load boards.

    JB sends me those emails all the time also and they do have a lot of power only freight you can run. I don't pay a lot of attention to the emails but they did raise the rate awhile back.

    Where are you located?We are in Lemont, IL my comapny can lease a trailer for you but they requre to lease yoour truck with them, they are taking 12%
