I’m still a n00b but I’m wondering about down the road. I’m trying to make a 5-yr-plan. I’ve read stuff on here about bulk cryogenic being a top shelf gig.

Working for one of the big industrial gas companies is good money w a regular schedule but you have to be able to work within their strict rules and endure the micromanagement, tolerate slipseating rigs and able to attend the delivery under ALL weather conditions.
Well above average pay and benefits and the opportunity to have some semblance of a non trucking life. Most want to maximize the employee workload so you'll still turn 60 to 70 hrs a week. In exchange you can expect 100 to 135K a year.

Can't say that there is a best tanker company over all. Some ppl associate high pay with a company being the best. However this isn't true in every case. But the best tanker company in Boston might be a mid level company in New Orleans. And that mid level company in New Orleans might be a horrible place to work at in Atlanta.

So it depends on location, customer work load out of said location, and product(s) hauled out of the location.

Now with that being said most private carriers are far better than third party carriers. The pay, benifits, driver treatment, and equipment maintenance tend to all be better at a PF.

    Fuel Hauling
    Chemical Distribution
    Bulk Cryogenics
    Bottled Atmospheric Gas Delivery
    Hazmat Waste Hauling
    And Bulk Chemical Hauling

Companies that haul these type of products normally are a decent place to work. To include some of the 3rd party carriers. However its best to do your research on a company to see if it will fit what you want.

Hell there were guys making $110K when I worked for Walmart Transportation. But some of them hated the policies and quit.

Cryo hands down, having ran oil, chem, and fuel it's the mass scale of the major competitors that make it what it is. Your work for not just a North American company but a global one. The work isn't back breaking, the pay is great and the customers and different applications we service is huge. Which in turn makes the work steady even in a down turn.

Best part of cryo for me is the diversity. Different roads, customers, products etc.
Worst for me is attending the delivery during winter here and the micromanagement.
The trade off is a well above average compensation and home every night.

Working out of socal we get little to no winter and the management here is not nearly as bad as when I hauled fuel. We don't have inward facing cameras, yet that is. Once you learn multiple product lines man the work is endless.

It's also probably one of the only places I've seen drivers go up in advancement. From terminal manager, safety, tech, regional management, plant operations etc.

I went from OTR chemical tankers to local cryo/liquid gases. This may sound silly to some, but I love that I don't have to climb anymore since there is no ladder on the tanks. No more potential injuries lol. No more fooling with dome lids and air hoses in freezing weather. Actually, no more dealing with freezing weather period since I'm in the south. No more searching for hoses. I also like that I load and unload myself and don't have to wait on paperwork at customers. I work about 50 to 60 hours a week with two days off. The pay is slightly higher than I was making OTR. Only downside is you're loading or unloading twice a day instead of twice a week, so you'll get caught out in the rain. Oh, and the cameras.

Asphalt has everything else beat, if you have the right plant..........

Ya, it’s dirty and smells. But you get good at it and both things can be keep to a minimum.....

Money was good and it’s still a product a owner operator can do.

But of course all good freight is under pressure from the nit wit carriers.......

    Mooseontheloose and Badmon Thank this.
