I love that there are so many former Magnum drivers in this thread that still have a lot of great things to say about Magnum!

 

Just wondering if any Magnum drivers can tell what your average length of haul is?

 

900-1100 miles

 

I think one of you told me that Magnum replaces the trucks every 4 years. Do they trade the whole fleet out all at one time or is it just a small number of trucks that get traded out little by little throughout the year?

The company I'm with now did it all at once.

So for new drivers to the company (but with experience, in my case 2 years) do we get put in the older trucks or the newer trucks or just depends?

If you told them you don't smoke (like me), would they be able to put you in a non-smoking truck or do they not keep track of which trucks are past smokers trucks and which ones aren't? Though it's not hard to tell because you never truly get rid of that nasty smoke smell (no offense to the smokers I used to be one ).

Oh also, does Magnum give you new beds still in the shrinkwrap when you get your truck (if the trucks used which 99% of the time will be)? My company used to do this not sure if they still do. Also do they let you have a day to clean it out and stock up with groceries, put your stuff in it, etc. etc. ? Rather than just throwing you straight into a load right after orientation without getting your truck settled first?

I know the mechanics usually clean it (or at least that's how it is at my company), but I have always cleaned the trucks myself (except for the brand new one I got). The mechanics definition of clean might not be what my definition of it is. I made a thread about whether truck drivers go inside to use the bathroom and most don't, which means I'm assuming most don't wash their hands after they go in the truck and then proceed to touch things like the APU thermostat and other parts of the truck.

EDIT - Are most of your trucks single or double bunks?

 

Truck assignment just depends when I started I was put in a brand new truck.
Smoking thing I don’t know.
Yes on the beds.
Super single beds. The trucks from 2000 on are double.
They have a detailing company come and clean the trucks.

 

Hello everyone. I’m currently doing schooling, and looking for places in ND/MN Magnum has been brought up a lot. Just a few questions I have if anyone could help. I currently live in NH, go to school in Mass. I’m aware that’s listed as outside the hiring area however I’m wishing to relocate to either ND/MN within 4-5.5 hours of the Canadian border. My question is will I have to move before they will consider me or do you think if I told a recruiter that they’d listen and try to work something out with me? Also I did some reading back through but there’s so many pages haha, what’s the time out/home time split. Site says usually 2-3 weeks out but how many days home are you credited and does staying out longer accrue more days home? If so what’s the ratio? earn 1 day for 7 days as an example. Thanks guys seems like a great company.

 

Call and ask. They may be able to work something out short term. Jersey is about the closest you'd get to home. Rental car from there and back to truck.

Home time isn't earned, take what you need. If you move to either Fargo or Minneapolis area, you are usually by the house every other week anyway. Can get a "free" night in between loads.

Most drivers stay out 3 weeks, because that's about when you run out of home cooking and fresh laundry. But easy to do what suits you.

Not to sound cold but I’m not really interested much in whether or not there’s the ability to get back to my current home (beyond getting belongings). Long story short family ties aren’t the strongest. I want to fully move out to the ND MN area.

 

If you moved to twin cities area you could possibly thru the house weekly.
