Hi everyone, I got my license early this month, started looking for a job for three weeks now. My first choice was Challenger, but since the lockdown situation, the training program won't have a place for me until March, and its not guaranteed. Bison sent me an offer, but that two year contract and 13 weeks training are something I really don't like. Also tried Highlight, but seems like they're not hiring new drivers right now.
here comes Canada Cartage, they just had a contract with Loblaws, so need lots of new drivers to run the contract. I had a long road test with them yesterday ( about 90-100 mins drive and backing) and I passed. the problem is they dont have a training program. The guy told me I will have a online training class (about 8 hours) and then one day orientation at the yard. And that's it, I'll be on my own after...
Now my question is should I wait for Challenger, or should I take the challenge to work for Canada Cartage for now, and wait for a open position in Challenger? Be honestly, I'm a little confused about been on the road alone just a day of training on the yard.
Any suggestions would be appraised, thanks.
Is first job with Canada Cartage a good choice?

Bearing in mind I have no first hand experience but I haven't really heard anybody bad-mouth Canada Cartage. Seems like they run pretty decent looking iron.
Mikeli Thanks this. -

Canada Cartage putting noobs in the driver seat right out the gate? Thank you for keeping us safe oh dear Leslie Family, or whoever it is now that owns that dumpster fire of corruption and money laundering. CC exists to flip the numbers soley, they are not a "trucking company", they just own contracts and trucks and use those tools to play the financial markets. Do not work for crooks.

they certainly do have a long list of opportunities. Most of the driving jobs state that you need a minimum of three months of experience.
Are they offering you a local driving job? Is it an hourly rate or mileage plus drops? Did they show you any of the truck's that you would be driving?
Do you pick the truck up in Mississauga and deadhead to Cambridge or are the trucks parked in Cambridge and you have to travel to Cambridge on your own time?Last edited: Jan 22, 2021
