Advise wanted, buying a 2012 perter ISX15

    S I have never owned a truck.(I'v driven CDL just a few years). Im looking at buying a ex oil field Peter 367 with ISX 15, 5000 hours/65k miles. 18 speed, 46k rears, 14k front, 500 HP. Ill be making it into a 4k gallon water truck to deliver water in Nor cal... I have read lots of forums on every brand of engine, I have learned that they all are trash. Am I walking into a trap with a 2012 ISX15? I know the fuel pump needs changed. What else? Thanks guys and gals!

    Like you said fuel pump is a major engine killer.

    Keep the oil changed. Adjust the valves.

    Guessing since it is in California it still has all emission stuff intact and working?

    65k miles of oilfield is probably about 300k-400k highway miles. Oilfield is typically not nice to trucks. Even worse if its not the owner driving it.

    Cummins had lots of trouble with oil getting to cams on top of engine. They were going bad and cummins would never admit anything was wrong.

    Don't ever by a truck that's been used in the oilfield,
    Unless your gonna use it in the oilfield.
    That truck has been beat to hell and back.

    That's 65,000 of beat up dirt road miles.
    You better hire a mechanic to do a full
    Inspection beforehand.
    Leaf springs,shocks, and all suspension parts
    Particularly.

    Thank you guys! Ill have a mechanic look over it. Ill keep looking around. A lot of the trucks that have the ground clearance are oilfield trucks so its not easy to find one... Im also needing it to have a small sleeper which lots of them have. Is the Paccar better?

    Things to look for:

    Suspension component condition.
    Cracks in frame or crossmembers.

    That's a lot of hours for 65,000 miles. Probably sat running a pto more of those hours than it used driving.
