I'm an old timer trucker and think stick shifts suck.
First time doing long haul with an automatic, I was spoiled and had no more use for stick shifts.
That was pulling hazmat tankers 48 states and Canada.

I’m the same. Been driving since ‘95 and I can’t imagine going back to manual. To me that’s like going back to cabovers. No thanks.

Step 1) Get the manual transmission training.
Step 2) Tell them what kunts they are for charging you additional money for it.
    Step 3) SUCCESS!!

Yeah, I can’t believe they're charging him $500 to learn how to drive a manual. I guarantee when he’s done he still won’t know how to shift properly.

OP, don’t get me wrong. I think you should learn how to drive a manual and test on it.
It should be part of your training without having to pay extra.

    I appreciate you emphasizing SKILL.
In the future, when they get the automated trucks going, they are going to quickly phase out steeringwheelholders. As brought out by @Vampire being skilled will be the thing that will insure that you will continue to be employed.

    Luck in battle.

Ever seen a new guy trying to shift a 10 speed? You know how much grinding goes on? $500 is cheap for the wear and tear. He can make that back in a few days which is nothing compared to a career. You pay $90 for a medical card every two years. This is a one time charge.

    Vampire and Flankenfurter Thank this.

From what i’ve seen in this business over the last 10 years everyone over 25 is a senior citizen. Childish and brave inexperience with no drive to get better then they were the first day and it shows. Auto’s are an example of that.

Heck, I’ll teach you how to drive a 10-speed for half of that!
