What killed the CB radio?

One of the most annoying things to me is these guys that have a massive radio setup at their house then they keep talking and running their mouth regardless of whether anyone talks back to them or not.

Also I don’t get the thing of telling each other how “good” you sound on the radio. Don’t get me wrong I understand a normal radio check and saying sounds good to me driver, it’s the fawning over the other persons voice that kind of gets to me.

 

The base stations are talking to other base stations, which you don't hear.

 

I can spend days in California and never hear a soul in the CB ( So many foreign drivers) come back down south and it lights up. Also Mt Vernon Illinois always seems to be full of CB talkers at the truck stop, can actually be quite entertaining at times. It's certainly helped me out with traffic upamd road conditions up ahead

 

A lot of new grads bought flip-flop shoes instead of a radio. Dumbest gd look in the world, btw, and dangerous as H

 

I found the ,zello app, searched for, “ Truck Drivers CB”. Don’t hear any kaos , often can get an update on road conditions no problem. I can use my phone head set to talk, and it reaches all 50 states

 

Sounds interesting. You can join different groups. It will never kill CB but might be a nice adjunct

 

The great thing about it is now you can actually speak if there's an emergency without having to worry about everyone else using the channel. I would often wonder why folks who want to engage in a bit of a chin wag wouldn't just go to another channel.

 

When them toes get flattened out a bit they will start wearing boots.
