I'm writing this for a friend who has a question.
Here it is.... The trucking company in question is a small carrier with just under a 100 trucks, small town operation and most of the drivers are local people.
Here's the issues that are being recorded from within the company by several drivers and some office personnel, now before I state all the issues,I am wandering if peoples rights are being violated and if there is ethics violations. And of course would it be worth while to sue?
So I'm sure we have all seen this before and even heard about it before and it is not just small companies doing it. Here's the deal a few drivers working for the company are very closely related and close friends with the owners and at a recent event it was announced that those same drivers were the only ones who got safety bonuses fuel bonuses and awards for having the most miles.
Here's the ethics violation in my view, They are giving these guys all the easy (dedicated runs), and the longer distance runs so they get better miles, the biggest turn around issue is drivers who aren't in the circle of friends and relatives are quiting because they see the obvious. The rate at which they are doing it is astounding for example your not one of their favorites you might get 1800 to 1900 miles a week average 25k to 30k a year no money at all .
If your in the loop with them you make upwards of 65k to 95k.
Some insight on this issue if you have any. I know this happens a lot in trucking
    Let me know your thoughts

Don't like the work environment, quit.

Is the company playing favorites, could be. Really hard to prove.
Not worth losing any sleep over.

Could be the company is trying to downsize without layoffs or firings.
Could be not enough miles to go around.

Why is everyone's first instinct to just sue? No wonder the legal system is such a darn joke.

I get it if you are coming on just to rant a bit about something you're frustrated about. Instead of worrying about it, just tell your "friend" to move on. With all of the opportunities out there, it's no loss on his part. If the company is truly being unfairly managed, it may eat itself eventually anyway.

    There’s ethics in trucking?

I know of driver etiquette, but ethics? Nope. It’s a prison lifestyle. You gotta earn it.

Every company has people like this, it's just more prevalent because it's a locally owned small business.
They're a few different types of drivers in every company.
    1. ##* kisser/buddy
    2. Hard runners - responsible/ good time management.
3.wage earner - drivers that just want a certain amount of money and home time, but are responsible.
    4. Finally you have slackers - put in the truck just to keep it from sitting.
These guys are usually irresponsible, poor tine management, low level of work ethic.
So, which one is your friend? If he is a buddie/hard runner/wage earner he wouldn't have this problem. I guess you know where I'm going with this.
Life is hard at its best, gotta figure a way to differentiate yourself from others.
I don't believe in participation trophies.
As for sueing over this, I think I know which one your friend is.

Its a private business. As far as what you're talking about, they can do what they want. There is no law that says they have to spread the gravy. If they want to give all the good load to family, they can do so. The others just have to take what's left or move on. There'll be more bottom feeders to come along & take the job for a while.
For some people........ Family comes first. No law against that.

Now if its race or sexually based, there are laws against that. But family vs just someone off the street. I'd say its perfectly legal. Just like if it was your privately owned family business. Others will just have to take what they can get. Take care of family.

No rights are being violated. People think anything that bothers them is violating their rights. Secondly, everywhere u go there are favorites. Not illegal. Maybe unethical. And I did sue an employer. I won. Cost me more to win than the money I lost. Should have just been a pain in their ### without the law suit. Could have done that for free.

Just like being a civilian in a government job. Every office has their “golden children” that get the benefits no one else does. Almost every parent has their favorite. Bad morals but not illegal.

Ok just for the record they are breaking the law. I looked it up and it is an ethics violation. I think part of the problem with this country is passive people not willing to fight for the good causes anymore.Im not talking about seeing for money or profit ,but if more people sued over things like this maybe the tru king industry would be a little better. I know a lot of you are used to seeing it and just shrug it off ,but sometimes you got to do what is right.
Regardless of all that, I myself am a hard runner and try to do it safely.
It's really sad how some truckers just shrug off problems like this. One last thing, if the company has no problem doing this and feel no remorse or feelings about it, how much more do you think their taking advantage of you in other ways?
