Too err on the side of caution...

I must be spoiled my dispatcher was a driver for 7 years before he moved to dispatch and we are allowed to shut down for any reason and they are not allowed to question us. If we say it’s unsafe for ME to drive all they can say is to let them know when you make it to a safe place and when you think it’s safe enough to drive and they will reschedule the load NO QUESTIONS Asked

I'm going to give you another story from my wonderful state of Pennsylvania. Saturday they called for freezing rain. I took a load to Ft. Meade MD. I was there from 6am to 11am. Roads were dry until about 10am. I checked 511pa.com and no updates. I hit the road and it was raining hard at 30 degrees, salt trucks were out traffic moving slow but say 50 mph. No problem if you're not a nut, just keep space. Got to PA line, dry roads, storm was passing under the state so far. I see a road sign " CMV empty trailer ban". Really?? I go back to website and sure enough it's updated with the ban. I drove back to terminal on dry roads but was nervous for the 90 minute trip.
I just sent their website a email in regards to any grace period they might have in regards to this kinda situation. Maybe law enforcement has some discretion. BTW, a few cops passed me without another thought. Dry roads and all.

 

To the OP, bobtailing is detrimental for a couple of reasons. Like SoulSceam84 stated, no weight on those back axles.

But also, the one that will have you in unison with the 4 wheelers doing 360 degree turns down the motorway, is that you still have almost the same weight on the steering axle as when you have a trailer attached.

This is a case of the tail not wagging the dog. The drives will swing around that steer axle like a top. Don’t let those drives go sideways or you will know what I am trying to explain.
