Has anybody gotten a hemorrhoidectomy and then continued to drive a truck for a living?

I just had this surgery 8 days ago and anyone who says it isn't terrible must have nerve problems down there. I suffer from kidney stones at least four times a year, have been told repeatedly I have an extremely high pain tolerance, and would rather do that over and over again than have to deal with this pain. The first six days I thought I wasn't going to make it! I took baths literally all day long because nothing else (including pain pills) helped the pain. On day two I had a bowel movement (took miralax, prescribed softeners, and milk of magnesia) it literally felt like glass coming out. Since then I have had one other bowel movement and again it felt the same. Best advice is plan on taking two full weeks for recovery at the very least, have a heat pad! It was constantly between my legs when in bed, avoid stairs or tubs that are hard to enter if possible, have someone to help you constantly, take your pain pills even if you start feeling better because the pain comes back fast when you don't expect it, drink tons of water, all soft foods even if doc says eat whatever, no caffeine, try to ice when possible (basically impossible) clean off in shower, did I say drink tons of water? I have had c-sections, open kidney stone removal (a horribly painful procedure done in patient with a morphine pump for pain management) and I would say this surgery was so much worse. I'm thankful I handle pain well because I truly don't see how people who don't can have this done out patient. I believe this should be done in-patient with at least 2-3 day hospital stay but insurance doesn't like that! Do not use a donut! My doctor said that's the biggest no no because it localized and pressurized your healing area. Just take as much time off as possible and ask for help. This is basically a bed rest situation. I wish I would have researched and found a forum beforehand because I probably would have declined this surgery. I'm hoping in the next few days I start to get 'back to normal' down there. Good luck to you and please drink tons of water. It is normal if it is hard to urinate (hopefully easier since you are a male) but if it doesn't happen within a day after surgery call your doc.

Yeah these are the kinds of stories I read about online on other hemorrhoid forums and saw on Youtube videos. A lot of posters in this thread seemed to have handled it well though.

During your bowel movements post surgery are you straining at all? Or is it coming out like diarrhea (that's probably just as bad as straining)?

Before your surgery, did you go on a liquid only diet a few days before your surgery? Or were you still eating solid/meat foods a few days before you surgery?

Also, how bad were your hemorrhoids before surgery were they internal, external or both?

I just wanted to update everybody. I had the THD hemorrhoid surgery instead of the traditional hemorrhoidectomy surgery.

I'm now 2 months post op and so far so good. I haven't seen or felt any signs of the hemorrhoids since my surgery. Pain was bad but nothing like the horror stories I read online. Very happy that I didn't go through the extreme pain that some people go through with these types of surgeries. Also very happy that the surgery (so far) appears to be a success. Again I had grade 3 internal hemorrhoids going onto grade 4.

If anybody gets this surgery, I would recommend searching around online and getting tips for how to make the post surgery as manageable as possible. There's a lot of good info and tips out there that will make your post surgery (hopefully) much more manageable. I know the advice over various internet sites helped me out a lot.

Feel free to message me or whatever if anybody has questions or wants tips or anything like that.

Thank you to everybody who responded to me in this thread and for sharing your experiences!

Hey, glad to hear about your success. I think I am experiencing the same thing as you and would like to ask some questions regarding this issue. I made an account specifically for this reason haha. However, I am still new to this forum and I am not sure how to private message, can you teach me?
