They were out of Port Allen. Was a great company to drive for. Drove for them in the late 80's. Beautiful trucks, great equipment, great people. They did have an airbrushed Tigator on the side, I remember people loving our truck and they knew when we were coming down the road. So sad that trucking has changed so much.

Monfort...the trucking division was bought out by Ameritruck. I drove for TranStar and pulled a couple of their loads back in the mid 90's. Ameritruck filed for bankruptcy around 98' I believe...and that was the end of Monfort Transportation......

I certainly remember Danny Elia. He used "sailor" language unless a woman was nearby. He told stories about the old days when he drove his brother's truck and blew a rear tire when backing down a ramp having not applied enough power to make it into a warehouse. I called Danny in late November, 1974, when trying to deliver a load of whiskey. I said, "Bad news. The delivery appointment is not until next week." Danny replied, "More bad news. You've been laid off." I'm sure it was all planned by Central Control to get me towards home before laying me off during the recession of 1974-75. I lived in Ottawa, IL, at the time. I cannot repeat Danny's language here when I once called him about a load he had promised was on pallets. It was a floor load. Danny cussed the shipper as though he really did not know it was a floor load. I had been conned, but enjoyed it.

Not that I wish they were still around but Pirkle, Raymond Cossette and Overland Express are a few I drove for that are history.

Has the company with the "Our most important assett is here ----------------arrow pointing the the driver side cab" been sued out of business yet for false advertising?

It's a good thing that pensions are going away, because just like you said pensions can be stolen or squandered.

It's much better to have your retirement in an account that is your asset (IOW, it's your money and you own it) like a Roth IRA or 401(k). Plus, IRAs and 401(k)s pass to your heirs when you die, pensions do not.

I was wondering if somebody would mention Harold Ives. I hired on with Covenant right after they took over, and I never heard anything but good things about Mr. Ives and the company he built.
