Linehaul bid runs always go by company seniority, so coming in from an OTR job vs coming from another LTL company won't change anything. As you said, walking into a bid can depend on a number of factors. When I started at FedEx Freight, I walked into a bid because it was a pathetically short run with 5+ hours of dock work in the middle. Anyone with seniority bid the extra board before the bid run I ended up on. So you might get a bid right off the bat because no one wants it.

It doesn't seem likely that you'd find a run out to the coast and back since most LTLs use a hub and spoke system of terminals, and it doesn't make sense to have a hub out there. Hubs are usually centrally located so the smaller terminals can run to them from all directions.

That makes sense. Savannah GA is on the coast though and is pretty centrally located, considering it's on I 95. I just looked at My Estes Terminal Lookup they have a terminal there in Savannah. That would also be a sweet run, Charlotte to Savannah.

Well it's not centrally located since it's next to the ocean. The more likely scenario is that Charlotte is the hub and Savannah has their own drivers run out there and back.

My thoughts are biased since I know how my company does it, so hopefully an Estes driver will chime in with something more specific to what sort of runs they have in Charlotte.
