Well, I have hit a new cold record for me, I think.
Shut down in Sidney, NE and the temperature is -24 NOT including wind chill.
Leaving the lights on tonight so the truck will start more often due to battery draw.Rideandrepair and dwells40 Thank this. -
You must have the opti idle? Makes more sense now that I think about it in that regard.Rideandrepair, Cat sdp and DUNE-T Thank this. -

never shut off below zero only asking for problems plus your in line for service behind all the other froze up trucks. Little bit of fuel cost is not worth the big bucks it will cost later
Rideandrepair, Itsbrokeagain, 86scotty and 4 others Thank this. -
I've always ran mine at 20 or below.
That's about the point the Espar quits working unless the fuel is good enough for colder. I've gotten lucky with a few 10* but nothing colder.Rideandrepair and Farmerbob1 Thank this. -
The potential fuel saving is not worth the risk of not starting, plus I believe cold starts do more harm to the engine than idling.
Heck, even this morning, in my own yard, I spent 2hrs trying to start my spare truck, which does not have a block heater. Wish I just left it running after switching trailers on SaturdayRideandrepair, tommymonza and snowwy Thank this.
