Texas has many Pilots closed too, just got an email with 20-30 peelots closed message. I'm up here north in MO just sitting around.

    Went back up I-45 tonight

the snowstorm was mild compared to what goes on up North, but Texas clearly isn’t able to handle it. It was as if they made little to no effort the clear the roads.
The snow in Houston was nearly all gone, from the road, but I-45 about an hour North is treacherous. I saw a pickup spin out and do a header into the concrete barrier in the median. There are cars run off the road and abandoned nearly every mile.

Dealing with the other drivers is by far the worst part of it. While leaving Houston headed back towards Dallas there were 4 wheelers driving sometimes as slow as 5mph in each lane of the interstate with their 4-ways on. This was even in the area where the road was both clear and dry.

How's that new green deal working out?
If only Texas had an alternative source of energy...
Say... like natural gas or something that wouldn't be affected by the weather.

Yea they probably don't winterize their fuel there like they do in the Dakota's.

Wonder how all that fuel in storage sitting static in the tanks and lines is doing?

    tommymonza and Dennixx Thank this.

That is another troubling issue in America.
Addressing the antiquated water and sewer systems and our electrical grids, and how to best integrate new technologies to prevent massive failures during natural weather events.
We just continue to jury rig the old instead of overbuilding new.

I’m based out of Dallas and we’re shut down for the week. I’m frankly horrified by the situation here in Texas. We’ve been lucky, I’m guessing that our proximity to one of our city’s water pumping/treatment plants has shielded us from the power interruptions that the news stations (and almost all of our friends) have reported from all over the state. No heat, temps well below freezing, and lightly insulated houses built for a warm climate might kill as many people as a bad hurricane.

It's going to worsen over next 24-36 hours.

I use this NOAA link for years, is the best source of precipitation forecast by type time/ region, the timing in Zulu/(GMT minus 5 hours East cost), I strongly recommend it, keep on eye on it as you move around the country .
If you move the cursor by time on top of the map , shows ice begins this evening by 06:00Z Wednesday which is 1AM tonight ET, almost entire Texas North of San Antonio shows ice and heavy snow OK, AR,MO,TN ,.....as the storm moves east.
    WPC's Short Range Forecasts (Days 0.5 - 2.5) - NDFD Precipitation
