Grilling for Truckers!

Rest areas usually have a vending contract and pretty sure that person won’t let this just happen
DC areas also usually have food trucks already and they too might have issue with this
Parking and waiting for a truck stop call? That too might not be profitable

Not trying to discourage anyone as I’m all for entrepreneurship but if this was something that would work and make $$$ I think the current food trucks would have already been on it and for some reason they’re not

There is one TS ( and I’m sure others ) in CA that is a mom pop type they have a guy who parks his truck there early AM until late PM
He has the TS traffic and is in a pretty busy warehouse district as well
It seems to work for them doing it that way.
Maybe look for something like that, if you have great food you will eventually get a following and become a destination for truckers
If you find that mom pop place to stay at. Then if other truck stops are near by you could then maybe make the door dash angle work as well

 

I wouldn’t quit
Just rethink it and come up with some sort of strategy that you can execute taking baby steps with an end goal in mind

 

I hate that fence with every fiber of my being.

 

Rather than going out and preparing hot food, maybe do food meal boxes? You could do some mighty nice meals, some to eat cold and some to reheat, and it would be a lot less of a fuss onsite.

 

In west Texas and eastern New Mexico the food trucks do darn good business. Especially the ones a long ways from town that are in areas of heavy oilfield traffic and that was long before the pandemic. If you find a market and consistently set up there the word will get out. Also make sure if your targeting truckers that they have easy access to parking, and they know about it before they get past you otherwise they well just keep on rolling.

Make sure you can take credit/debit cards as well. And advertise that on our signage. Many of us carry very little cash.

 

Food wise, my GUESS is most of us aren't going to be very picky considering most of us live off of tuna sandwiches, subway, and Arby's.

If the food is good, it's good. I will eat just about anything that doesn't have American cheese on it.
