I recently bought a oil field truck out of Longview Texas. I cant remember the exact company that owned the truck. I do remember it was (something) oil field solutions out of Oklahoma I believe? The dealership I bought it from had no info on the truck. It is a two tone grey with silver 09 westernstar with 4.11 gears, Detroit 60 series, lifted cab and coffin sleeper. It was a super clean truck with 106,000 miles on it. Well I'm having a electrical problem with ecm and iv replaced alot of parts trying to figure what's going on with even putting a new ecm in the truck. I'm hoping maybe to find info on the truck in this thread maybe with any luck the driver or drivers who may no what services the truck has had or what they know of the truck. I just thought its worth a shot on here?

Describing the issues you're having might help.

When I first got the truck I noticed the turbo would stop spooling at highway speeds when you lightly let off throttle, if you give it full throttle it would boost to normal boost. If I'm at a stop the pedal would be super touchy. (This only would happen about 1 time a day for about 45 min to a hour then the truck ran fine with turbo and boost. Throttle was fine. About a month later I got a check engine light on and it turned out saying exhaust temperature sensor. Replaced sensor same problem with truck shutting down. Checked truck again found the same code. At this point because of turbo acting goofy I decided just to replace it and see. Well the turbo did the same and still popping up the same code for exhaust temp sensor but this time on computer the screen is flashing active and inactive quite wildly. So decided to pull ecm and diesel poured out of it. I replaced ecm and wiring harness and the truck code went away (exhaust temp sensor) but the truck turbo weirdness was still there. I do have power when the turbo does this so I waited driving like this for about 3 months and no codes. So further investigating I noticed that my fuel pressure would act strange at idle it would go to 125 psi. And driving anywhere between 50 to 90 psi, up and down. But when the turbo started acting up instead of 125psi at idle it would drop to 12psi. So I got it checked out. When it's done manually the fuel pressure is bad so I replaced a fuel pump. Found out there is no fuel pressure sensor on my truck so not sure what my Guage is reading off of. But started to drive it and the Guage does the same thing.? When turbo acted goofy I hooked it up and did a injector cut out test found out 2 injectors stuck open. So I ordered new injectors. In the mean time waiting on the injectors I got a new check engine light while working and the truck shut down on me. I started it back up and it ran fine to drop the load but only with the check engine on the whole time. Made it back to shop to put it on the computer and found a whole lists of issues from pedal sensors (which I replaced before hand) injectors ect. While it was hooked up the

Series 60 uses a fuel cooled ECM so unless diesel was pouring out of the electrical connectors or inside on the circuit boards the diesel in there is normal.

Honestly, the ECM is probably the most bullet-proof and reliable component on the truck. ECM should be the absolute last thing to be suspected of failure.

Multiple codes usually point to a harness issue or a poor ECM power/ECM ground connection.

Iv been thinking of poor power as well to ecm. Maybe from connections in battery. Just have not touched that yet. I pretty much replaced all wiring harnesses from the ecu under the dash to wiring harness to and from ecm. Thank you

It's also the flashing on computer thats weird? Maybe because of poor power supply..

What about the wiring on the engine itself? Generally speaking if you're getting fault codes related to the engine, it would either be a wiring problem or sensor/component problem on the engine.

If you've got active engine ECM faults I would start by visually checking the engine wiring harness, paying close attention to the wiring going to the components you're seeing faults related to.

The engine wiring harness has been replaced to at the same time as ecm about 4 months ago. But will look at all the connections as well when I get back to it. Thanks for the help!
