Do you know which states Howard hires from; it's not on the website that I can find.

Mainly Mississippi & North Carolina, but I know a couple of Howard drivers who live in Virginia. They will hire you from any state east of the Mississippi, and also Louisiana, Arkansas, and Wisconsin. If you live far from Ellisville, Mississippi, you would have to have a place at home or near your home to park your truck. In other words, you could live in Indiana, and be a Howard driver, as long as you have a place to park your truck at home or near your home.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Unless.... you drove to the Ellisville, MS terminal ( in your car ), depart from Ellisville and returned to Ellisville, and then got in your car to go home. You can take a week off at a time. So, if you don’t have a place to park your truck at or near your home, you could do it like this. Pay Day is every Thursday. I chose direct deposit. So, if you place a high priority on Home Time, this would be the best company for you. You tell them how long you will be home. The dispatcher will ask you, “when do you want to go back out?”, and you set the day & time you go back out. I don’t know of any other company that offers this, do you?

Are you still with Howard Transportation? Also, what kinda mileage do/did you average with HT?

Sorry for the bump, I've been MIA for awhile. I didn't stay long with them, the dispatcher I had was heavy on micro managing and it wasn't a good fit for me personally but you might have a different experience.
I averaged. 2100 miles a week when I was with them.

I want to go ahead and explain what led to me leaving in case it helps anyone or they feel it might not even apply to them.
When I was hired I was told I would be home most weekends, if not all. I was almost exclusively out for 10 days and would get home on a following Tuesday or Wednesday. I would ask to stay home for a couple days and was told if I did that I would have to stay home until Monday and they don't run that way. I didn't have much issue with this as my dispatcher said they could get short loads to have me back by Friday or would put me out to run hard and give me 3-4 days off the following week. I managed to get a lot of loads leaving out that would pickup Friday to deliver Monday but would be only 2-300 miles away and there was no additional pay. I didn't ultimately have an issue with this, except for where they had told me during orientation "you will never sit on a weekend for more than 24 hours and if you do you will be compensated layover." I never saw layover as my dispatcher always told me I had a load and they couldn't pay me additional. All of these were small issues to me but added together to be too much. I requested a different dispatcher though to hope things would get better and was told my dispatcher was the only one that could take me on. So I ultimately left and took a break from OTR after HT.

Again, my issue is not yours, I do not want to spread anything bad about HT as I did have a lot of positive experiences. I feel most the issues I encountered were just because my dispatcher and myself were just not a good fit for each other. I like to consider myself a hard worker, and I've never had any late deliveries or pickups with any company, minus any breakdowns out of my control, and I've only ever been early. So HT was just not a good fit for me.
