We had no power or water or cell service for FOUR days in our area. We burned up 3 years worth of firewood. The widowed neighbor down the road had to camp out inside her custom horse trailer with her 2 race horses and toddler because she couldnt get heat in the house or barns. The generator for the trailer is diesel so she borrowed some of our 1000 gallons stock pile we got at the shop. We Lost 3 cows and a calf. One old one gave up and didn’t want to move even with a tractor and had to shoot her after she was freezing to death. One cow got stressed into labor and died with the calf. The other one fell into a snow covered hole after slipping on ice and broke both front legs.
That 0 degree temp we had for about 4 or 5 hours was no joke.

My last and oldest Uncle on my moms side up in Jersey died the Sunday night before the storm down here. My Father in laws cancer surgery was supposed to be last Mon and was postponed till Mar 15. A close friend of family who is a dog rescue volunteer and fellow foster dog parent slipped on ice and broke her wrist in 4 places and broke her pelvis trying to save a dog that was stuck in ice.

There were a few days last week were you couldn't do anything but sit in the dark next to the wood stove. Falling asleep made the time go by faster. I was lucky to wake back up.

And so begins America's future...becoming a 3rd world country. Or call it Californication. It's already happening in Texas.

I usually just go with the ball hammock. Come winter time I line it with bunny fur,.

Keeps the boys warm and snuggly.

You do know that they work here in Michigan. They work because they are winterized, which thanks to the freeze and blackouts in 2011 the electric company in Texas knew it needed to be done.
They even promised to, yet here we are.

Yeah. Most winters down here have a handful of days and nights around freezing spread out over a 4 month period and 40’s for the most part. With electrical power to run home heat pumps. Hardly need or don’t need to use wood. Last week was 7 days at or way below freezing in a row without anything but caveman fire. Not good for us. Lol!
