So i'm sure this has been answered a million and a half times and im just searching for the wrong question for answers. That said im still fairly new to end dumps and ran into a situation yesterday were i was seeing sustained speeds in the 50s and 60s and gusts as high as 90 from the south i.e side on over on the I80 in wyoming and was seeing several rolled trucks on wyoroad.info.

So even though im fully loaded with a low heavy load at 80k. I decided to shut down and just not risk it as i wasnt sure how much wind i could safely get away with in an end dump when im more used to tanker or vans, especially as my load was loose steel balls i was worried might jerk the trailer over if they all slid at once during a gust.

I got chewed out because another truck infront of me with the same load got through fine by going in the low 30-40s. So im wondering if i made the right call and the other guy got lucky, or if it would have been fine with an end dump. And yes i know the old saying "if your not sure, just dont" applies here. But figured id ask those with more extensive end dump experince for advice on that one.

Tell them to come drive the #### truck then. I’m sure the customer would rather have you a day later then never.

That being said with a relatively low profile load I probably would have kept going.

Gusting to 90 is dangerous I don't care what rig your in. Unless a tail wind, that would be a bonus.:D

With that kind of wind if you had dry dirt or sand in the belly it probably be close to empty by the time you got across just from it being blown and sucked out. Lol!

And you don’t want to dare lift that mast to unload in gusts like that.

I always like when they throw something up like that.
I tell them that other guy is a big boy, he makes his decisions in life.
I’m to old to let someone try to get over on me or be sitting in an office telling me what someone else may have done, he was probably parked too.
90 mph gusts and they said he was running 40?
    Got a video?

I dumped a 40’ frameless in a hurricane once, wasn’t exactly fun but I made it, should be fine driving through it but don’t do anything you are not comfortable with

The company that tells you to drive in those conditions will be the first one that hangs you out to dry if your truck rolls over.

YOU are in control of that truck, not some bean counter!

So the guy in front of you managed to get through by crawling along at 30 - 40 mph on I-80. Sounds like a miserable, unproductive day. You are a CDL driver, there is only one person that is held responsible for the operation of your truck. Look in the mirror. You're it. That steel shot is useless laying on the side of the road. As is the truck.
