On an unrelated note being the "crusty curmudgeon" you are lol what brought about the death of the CB? When I first started driving my trainer was an O/O with a 13spd manual Pete with a yellow CAT engine and he convinced me that a CB on the truck was an absolute must to get a heads up on things down the road. As well as entertainment value. I've spent many nights laughing my head off at CB commandos at the truck stops. However when I'm on there yelling at Prime to get out of the hammer lane because he's holding me back I get no response. What's the deal with that?

cell phones and GPS. don't need anybodies help, especially from an old fart. lol

was told by a new kid yrs ago, when we were going to same place to deliver," he didn't any directions from me ,he had his GPS and cell phone. no CB, just call me if any changes in route."

he got lost ,called dispatch and said I left him behind and he was late because of me. lol. I tried to tell him the exit was coming up and get out of the middle lane. but, nope, no CB.

call him? I don't yak and drive.

Must've been a really young guy. I'm in my 30's so I guess I'm in the in between generation or something. I have a cell phone because dispatch doesn't have a CB and is too far away for my CB to reach if he did. I also have a GPS but a map book too. I'll look over the route the GPS is giving me then I'll open my map book to see if the route makes sense. I can then adjust the route by setting way points. The problem with cell phones is that I don't have every drivers cell phone number so if I want to talk to that skateboard in front of me I don't know how else to call him except the CB. Then hope he has one.

I actually talked to the boss recently. They are OTR so they hire everywhere. There won't be a terminal outside of Rockwall, TX and you'll have to go there to get a truck initially but you can live anywhere.

That's actually true. I went out there, did 1 week of orientation then got assigned to a ######## "mentor" that I had to follow for however many days until the gatekeeper signs off. The guy was not only a dick but dangerous. After a few days of chasing that guy down 2 lane roads at 85mph loaded heavy with loads that shift in the middle of the night I quit. That guy is going to kill someone and it won't be me.
