My hometown back in Georgia started as a watering station on the Railroad line between Washington DC and New Orleans. Today that track belongs to Norfolk Southern. All across the US, you will find population centers all along those old railway lines and waterways like the "Red Stick" on the Mississippi River. Over the last, 70 or so years transportation hubs have grown up along major intersections like I 81 and the Pa Turnpike. Out west these large population centers are there because they found a water source. Industry springs up near these crossroads. Get a map out some time and look at roads like I 35 and trace it all the way from its south to north ends. Look at the places where it crosses I 20, I 40 and I 70. The same can be said of I 75 and I 81.

Carlisle PA is not really a rare place, but, it is an important crossroads between two heavily traveled roads.

Yes they like buffets too. There is no gambling on a Las Vegas buffet. They are always a sure bet.

Just got the twofor special on a Starbucks Mocha Doubleshot Energy drink. I think I just satisfied my yearly dietary requirement for sugar. Kinda' disgusting.

No, but the Flying J there is one of a kind. Trucks parked literally everywhere, even at the fuel pumps, taking their 10. It's hard to even drive into the place at night

About 25 years ago I was in that fishhook trying to get some coffee. The waitress was nowhere to be found and one of the drivers was actually pouring the coffee. This guy walked in and asked us if we had seen her. Then he walked back into the kitchen area. Several minutes later this girl came running out along with a guy both adjusting their clothes. I discovered this guy was the VP of restaurant operations and fired that girl on the spot. I then was told the guy was one of the C-store asst managers that had lost his job as well. That VP gave all of us at the counter his card good for a free meal. And spoke to us as he made some coffee and waited on another girl to come in.

Another story comes from the Pearl Mississippi fishhook around that same time. A rather large female server told a small frame cook she had enough of his mouth. He popped off and almost got pulled through the window where they hand food to the servers. To this day I think that server was in open can of whoop a rear mode.

And now I have a belly ache. I've been doing a pretty good job of following our daughter's advice to, "read the ingredient label, dad!" I just couldn't pass up the deal.

intersections of major interstates are prone to be like that.

Charlotte NC, has a gajillion. 77 and 85. I-40 just to the north and I-20 down in S. Kakalacky.
