The last figure I heard was that over 90% of new drivers are gone from the industry by their first year. Keep that in mind.

I dropped to a Class B job, still drive 2000+ miles a week, paid hourly, home every night, weekends off, and I make almost twice what I did OTR. I just don’t have to pull a trailer.Brettj3876 Thanks this. -
If we made more money it would just translate to higher prices for everything, just like if minimum wage went up.
In the end no one actually gains what they think they will, because the prices always average out.
Want more money?
Get more education and/or get into something that pays more.Cowboyrich, TankerP and SoulScream84 Thank this. -
Truck driving is not a trade, nor requires any education beyond basic 4th grader reading/math skills hence the wages.

Regarding wanting more money. There is nothing wrong with wanting more money. And yes you can make more money in trucking then beginning starter company wages. Don't have accidents. Don't tear stuff up. Don't get tickets. Then after ya get some experience and add all the endorsements to your cdl that ya can then you make yourself more marketable. I hope that's the right word to use. There are jobs out here that do pay well even as high as a six figure income but ya gotta keep your driving record clean. I've seen some specialty tanker drivers on here ( cryogenics ), i believe was the commodity, that were doing like. 125 grand a year. And no i didn't see actual #'s to back that up. Just saying the potential for decent money is out there. Ya just gotta find it i guess.

Your not even done with school and your complaining. Quite now and leave us alone. If you can make more money doing something else go for it. I do well and am happy for it.

I didn't take what the op said as complaining. I just figured the op was simply making an observation. And the op even tipped his cap to some of us veteran drivers out here.

If you look at the kids who go to college and they're 100% certain about their career path. 4 years later, that's changed.
My point is this; people go into trucking for whatever reason. A couple of weeks, months, or years later they find that trucking ain't for them. It really isn't about the money. They'll say it's about the money because its easier than saying they made a bad career choice.
Its about the lifestyle. 90% of trucking companies will give you what you could get on land. Its about the lifestyle they can't take. And I'm not hatin on anyone who washed out.
You either are, or you're not. And neither one is right or wrong.DoubleO7, bzinger, Lumper Humper and 4 others Thank this.
