Why?
Most would wish they had that 10 speed over the 6. That combo with a 6 speed has a tall 1st gear and while managable, I much pefer to have all those lower gears under load. You can always skip them.
Auto is a whole nother challenge and will likely cost waaaaaay.... more on the swap. Find a truck thats specD the way you need it. Youll be thankful.Rideandrepair, BoxCarKidd and SmallPackage Thank this. -
I’ve got a Freightliner FL60 with 3126B 250 hp, Spicer 6 speed and 3.90 rear on 11R22.5’s. I drove it for 16 years and over a million miles at 33,000 gross. I WISH I would have been able to get a 10 speed when I speced it new. It was not available as a spec at that time.
The 6 speed is a workhorse and have never had a problem with it ever but you shift into top gear around 45mph with a 3.90 and slowly ride it all the way to the governor. 74 at 2400rpm’s. It is frustrating on the highway doing anything with weight because you are stuck in ONE top gear until you slowed down to around 45 mph again. You have no pulling power to pass!
Trust me. Keep the 10 and shift it like a 5 or 6.Dino soar, Rideandrepair, BoxCarKidd and 1 other person Thank this. -
