lol. Nah, I’d probably follow Accidental Truckers advice and make sure I got my head right with family time. I spend a lot of time with my wife and son but being physical there and mentally present is two different things.

I just realized tomorrow is the last day to sign up my son for his first year of baseball. Hadn’t even crossed my mind. :\

I imagine it's a hard decision, but how can you maybe hire me some day if you sell? :p

In all seriousness, I don't envy you this decision. If it were me, I'd probably keep things rolling. It sounds like you've got it ripping. But, I also am but a mere office puke, and I'm not dealing with the rest of the stuff that you've got going on.

At any rate, definitely go get your boy registered for baseball. That's the important thing here.

Keep in mind, too, that a phone inquiry is a long, long, LONG way from depositing a big check in the bank. Matter of fact, I sold my company three years ago, but no one ever mailed the check, so here I am, plugging away.

would have been a NICE check, too....... ;).

If you received a good offer you would be crazy not to consider it. I retired from a 30 year career in insurance at age 50, then got into trucking at age 55. If I could have retired in my 30's or 40's I would have just to have the extra time with the kids who are all now grown. Like somebody else mentioned, put the proceeds in the bank and start up another company in a few years if you're so inclined. That's what I did when I got into trucking, and now I've had my fill of it and I think I'm finally ready to retire for good and just work from home when I feel like it. I don't have to work, but if I sat around all day vegging out on the computer, or fishing every day, I think I'd eventually go crazy. At the very least, I'd drive my wife crazy.

In other news, I delivered a load in Denver yesterday and was scheduled to pick up a load in Wyoming today back to California. Got a call at 2:AM last night that my dad fell and hurt himself, so I cancelled the back haul and drove 1,009 miles home dead head in 15 hours strait through with 4 hours of PC. Just got home an hour ago. Dad cracked a rib, but it otherwise okay. My wife took him to the ER. This is the main reason I'm retiring, to take care of my parents while they're still here.

In your shoes Midwest Trucker I'd likely sell. With the freight business so good right now I'd think you'll get a solid offer. Is there any chance you might be a sales person or consultant for the company buying you out or another one maybe? Like others pointed out if you get bored in a couple or three years you most certainly have the knowledge and ability to start over.

On the other hand, I've sold 2 pieces of property in the past couple of years and made a nice pile of money off them both. I wish I had them back now because they were both great properties and it's really hard to find good land for sale at a good buy. Hindsight is always 20/20. Even with that regret both choices were win, win. That's always a good place to be. Good luck whatever you do!

Oh and PPDCT thank you as well. I did get him signed up on Saturday. Just ordered a mitt, 12 balls, and a practice bat. Guess later this week we’re gonna be spending some time out in the yard. :)

Get it in, buddy. With spring finally starting to break, we've been spending a lot of family time at the park. Jake loves to hit the slide. Keeps the grind in perspective, at least.
