When I was 18 I worked for Howard Arneson for a summer and got my fill of boat racing. People don't even lie about going as fast as one of his twin jet turbines. He invented the Arneson pool sweep, then spent his millions on inventing surface prop outdrives used by racing boats around the world today.
I took a few runs in this boat at 100+ MPH.

I do better under the water with fins and compressed air.Brettj3876 Thanks this. -
Saw Howard at the Miami Boat show with his 26 Sanger with the turbine and arneson.
I followed. Offshore racing from the age of 5 and my dad bought a twin engine 26Monza in 1971.
My brother designed this 18 footer as a teen and built all the plugs and molds by himself. I was 13 and would skip school and build boats with him .We built 14 of them
I bought one later on the early 80s. Sold it to a guy 35 years ago when i moved to Florida that he hung a Arneson on it. Were still close friends. And he still owns it.Last edited: Mar 9, 2021

I had a friend that owned an 18 ft Baron back in the early 80's but it was set up for an outboard. He had a Merc 250 hp black max hanging off the back. That thing was just scary fast for its size and hull design. I seem to recall we clocked it at 72 mph one time. When it was trimmed out just right the hull was literally riding an inch above the water and it was just riding on the prop.

Funny you mention that. I know where every one is but that one you mentioned. I went to high school with a girl that later hung around with the guy I sold my Baron to. She loved his boat and bought her own that was also blue
She moved out to California with it but got hooked on Crack and lost the boat.
Any idea where it might be located these days?
We only built 14 of them before my brother shut the doors. Sold the molds 2 years later and the guys who bought them started Powerplay/Power quest boats in holland Michigan.
They built 100s of them. They are still kinda sought after.Last edited: Mar 9, 2021

Hmmm, well then maybe I have the name wrong. I distinctly remember the name, but perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me. Did he make an outboard version? If not, I've got the name wrong. It certainly looked just like the hull in your picture though. No idea where the guy or the boat is today. That's been over 30 years now.

Half way down the link is a article about Barron boats 190 outboard.

Yesterday, I was almost put out of commission. It was inches close but not even a scratch. Call it luck or was it my guardian angel? Dam these pick trucks, I bet they think they can haul tanks too!
