What’s going on truckers YoungBlood here with a scenario.
Took my truck into a major repair shop on the 27 of Feb for a valve adjustment. Called in that Tuesday morning March 2nd shop said “Come on down mechanic down a road test on the truck should be ready by time you get here.”
Picked up, went to the yard down the street parked. 3 am time to roll.... Check engine light is on...figure once start rolling it’ll turn off. Go approx 78 miles then red engine light comes on “100% derate , shut engine down immediately!!” I do as such...
Tow back to shop.. I check my ELOG to see... Milage from pick up the same from drop off. Calls Safety to ask any movement of truck while in shop ? None only 1 mile.
Called shop “You guys do a drive test before I pick up from valve adjustment ?” Shop: “Sure, did took it up the freeway check the jake brakes made sure everything been running good” end of conversation....
Tow Bill $1200
DEF Heat Sensor ~$500
Labor ???
Figure sensor gon get paid regardless, can I ask Truck shop to pay for tow and take some off labor since ELOG proves no DRIVE TEST was preformed and Tow could’ve been prevented ?? Thanks
Odometer doesn’t lie, will they take care of the extra charges?

Funny how you take it in for one issue and end up having more issues right out of the gate.
You can print it out or show the screen to the owner but it most likely won’t help you.
finding a reputable mechanic is worse then finding a reputable driver.feldsforever, 77fib77, Badmon and 4 others Thank this. -
When does a mechanic need to take a truck for a test drive after a valve adjustment is done?
I would think these problems were going to happen no matter what.WildTiger1990, feldsforever, lester and 8 others Thank this. -
Shop will say why did you leave with a check engine light ?? And then say it was fine when they parked it . PS that’s a out of service if you get inspected and they find soot everywhere

Having an over ran has absolutely nothing to do with your def system. Yet you want the shop to cover your operating expenses.
personally, you bring that b.s. into my shop & you can pay to tow your truck right back off my property & to another shop. I would cut ties with you & refuse the work.Czar_Zero, Bo Hunt, tommymonza and 4 others Thank this. -
