I was Locked out of truck.

    I gotta admit when I was up in Traverse City at the mall a few months ago with my Conversion van I came out and thought it had been stolen.

    I always leave one of the key fobs in the dash compartment and there were a group of people hanging out in a car next to me when I parked it and walked in.


    Turns out my paranoia and old age caught up with me. I just walked out the wrong exit and got disoriented in the parking lot not paying attention to to where I entered .

    Since than the fob is hidden in the van. A couple door blanks hidden around outside to get in .

    Most trucks can be opened with another truck's key. Takes some jiggling around, but it will pop.

    I actually carry two sets of keys with me.

    One set is in the ignition the other is on the heat blend lever.

    If the truck is shut off the keys from the ignition come with me. If I leave the truck running then the second set come with me to lock the doors from the outside.

    I am also very paranoid about getting locked out.

    I didn't see who mentioned it, but they where right. I know its me. On the last truck I had a spare in the battery area. One that never left the truck and one in my pocket. ( pre zip tie trick) that's three.
    In fort went worth or Dallas. I had to call a lock smith. Because I showered and left the key in the dirty jeans. This whole time the key was in the dirty laundry bag on the ground, and the other was in the battery area. I still got a lock smith because, well you know. Land star will take almost anybody. Lol. If I don't laugh at myself sometimes others will all the time.
    I'm gona mount the slim jim some where on the truck.

    I'm going to work on that locking it from the out side. And see if I can make that a common practice. Thanks for the advice

    Same for me, but (isn't there always) we have some Volvo's that will lock themselves if the teuck is running and we get out. Like everyone does at the guard shack.
    After management came over and unlocked the truck a few times, he had the shop turn that 'feature' off.

    One key stays on the ignition and only gets taken off and hidden somewhere when you’re about to leave the truck unattended the other key is always in your pocket mixed with your house keys. Never locked myself out.

    I'm trucks and more finicky with that.

    I remember many years ago like maybe around 2006 or something and there is an international they had me driving and all I did was get out of the truck and shut the door and that was it couldn't get back in.

    If it is your own truck though you should roll the window down and open and close the door a few times and make sure there's no way that door automatically locks on you when you get out. And just always being the habit of having a spare set of keys with you.
