I’ve been with Estes 5 years coming up this September all linehaul and 3 years of it running on the extra board. Currently in Reno and looking to possibly transfer to Tampa, Florida in the next year or two. Does anyone have any info on that terminal and the types of bid runs they have running out of there? How consistent is the freight? Just any general info would be great. I know Florida isn’t very big on outbound freight so I’d possibly even switch over to p & d if I couldn’t run on the extra board or get a bid run. I think I’d lose my seniority if going over to p & d.
Thanks

I live in Reno, Nevada... I’ll be ok
McUzi, skinnytrucker and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
more specifically.
1. do you drop seniority? is there 2 kinds of seniority(like company seniority, and terminal seniority or is it all linked)? like for example my company had them seperate so if you transfer you drop terminal seniority(which means you have limited selection of runs that you can do), but you keep company seniority(which is relating to your pay rate).
2. if you don't have housing where you transfer to, does the company put you in hotel for free until you find housing? if not that's okay, just curious, most likely i'm guessing to have your place lined up or family or something to where you go to.
3. i think each company might be slightly different. so even though my company may work one way, another company may work another way.Last edited: Mar 2, 2021

I think you lose seniority for 90 days and have to do extra board then you get full seniority and whatever your equivalent pay would be for that area. For us on the west coast we would take a small pay cut from what I understand. I think if you transfer from linehaul to p and d you start over from scratch on the board but keep your pay rate.
As far as housing you would probably be best to line something up before hand but I do know some guys on the extra board in the past have literally had no home and just stayed in hotels but they were on the road and would only take a 34 hour reset at the home terminal. you would probably need to talk to the TM there and work something out.kidz bop Thanks this. -

i'm originally from so cal. high state income taxes. as far as south reno. good places to shop at. lots of recreational stuff aswell, outdoors stuff. they get sunlight more so than alot of the other states with no state income tax. i see alot of perks of living in reno. i'm sure tampa has perks too.
i was considering reno high on the rankings of places i would move to if i was moving. so it kind interests me what is the motivating factors making you move to tampa?Last edited: Mar 11, 2021

I don't have any information on tampa as far as runs and all of that, but I've been there. It's a decent sized terminal. I can't remember if it's a bulk terminal or not because I was always trying to get up outta there lol. I'd figure they'd run a bunch of atlanta out of there because usually used to go to Atlanta or Mobile, AL.
You were correct that if you switch divisions, you lose ALL seniority except your company seniority. You do have to run board 90 days until bid. I'll let you know running easy coast board sucks because the terminals are REALLY CLOSE. -
