I give up, ELD choked on the 3/7 split and now I don’t know what to do.

Unfortunately, they didn’t sell beer at that rest area. Lost market opportunity perhaps?

Yes the violation disappeared after a 7 hour break (but I also was on the phone with tech support for an hour, so would it have cleared by itself? Not sure.)

Personally, I never used to split log but since the new revision and shippers taking longer than ever to unload, it’s becoming more of an option. But Rand needs to put something in there software that accounts for two simultaneous clocks. The 14 hour clock I SHOULD have logged out on, the 14 hour “optional” clock and the hours available to both. Even a mode toggle would be nice.

“Are you doing a split log? Y/N”

Am I saying it’s easy? Hell no! I can’t even figure out the rules sometimes. But if these things are supposed to help us, we shouldn’t have to waste so much time trying to out think them.

They aren't designed to help us. They're designed to be a pain in the rear.
There are times I just disconnected the goofy log. Started paper.
Ever notice all the complaints about DOT straining at gnats while swallowing camels? Oh... sleeper birth or off duty. Who cares? I'm not driving. That's supposed to be the whole point.

Worked for one idiot. He tried to tell me that the 8/2 split is; Drive 8 hours, 2 hour break, drive another 8 hours. It will show as a violation on log. But it isn't! It's the new ruling! Look it up on their website!...... I told him.... You're Dreaming!

Where I am now. We have the best Peoplenet I have had so far. It's still goofy. But has always worked and workable.

For what it's worth, most now show a 14 hour violation while extending past the 14, and driving. The violation goes away provided the split is properly completed. Seems if you take the less than 7 first, the sleeper must be used now, even if going off duty for 10 hours or more at the end of the run, which is not what I expected.

I'm now using Keep Trucking. My EROAD unit had developed electrical power issues from a bad cord.

I've used electronic logs for the past 12 years and don't know if I could even do a proper paper log even though we're required to carry paper backups

I count 16+ hours from 0715 to 2330. It will be a violation UNLESS and UNTIL you finish the second part of the split sleeper.

Adding to that, most (all?) ELD's do NOT show violations in inspection mode. That's for the fuzz to figure out on their own - which I understand they now do by running the downloaded log through software.

Didn’t read all the comments so this may have been posted

I have peoplenet and we were told to request an update each day in one of the screens and this will make sure all logs are up to date as there may have been satellite interruptions

Not sure if your system has that option
Otherwise go on paper and get it updated next time you stop
