Actually, those rediculous idle policies are NOT that of May Trucking Company. As a matter of fact they are on a per state and county jurisdiction basis. Mainly brought on by the EPA to reduce pollution issues. These are laws that May Trucking Company and THEIR DRIVERS are bound by. Most tractors are now being implemented with APUs to get around the idle laws so that drivers can be more comfortable during sleeper time.

Since this is favorite truck companies, and I have worked for May Truck out of Phx, I really can not comment on them here. Wrong Forum...... If I see something like this for May say in the Bad Company area I might leave a comment there. If your going to work for May and want to know what my experience there was leave me a message and I will tell you.

I see your profile says student So your probably not that familiar with What polcys they had previous. Yes it seems as of late the states have gotten crazy about idling just as May has alway's been. They used to even have you sign if you went over the limit it came directly out of your check.
When you walk through there Yard how many Trucks have APU's on them? That would be the best indication of how concerned they are about Your comfort because they would be smart to take care of there current employee's. -
You Got IT but When you get directions from someone on the east coast they will say go down to the "Jug Handle"

Now thats funny, May Trucking suppling anything they do not have too. I has been a long standing policy of May not to idle. It has nothing to do with laws its company policy. Ask any of us that worked for them. If it was 30 below you have to get authorization up front to idle or they would deduct it out of your pay check. This was the biggest reason why I left them. I live on just off Hwy 58. I could take my 10 off in Bakersfield or Barstow and it was fine, but if I took it off in Tehachapi at the house they would call and want me to move in the middle of my 10 off. Just stupid stuff. That I was hired to run the Phx Loop, and has dispatched 48 states.
The only time I saw Phx was after home time they would send me to Phx then to Pensacola. Did not care for the idea it cost me money to get my paycheck. Always had to leave Tchecks with the wife. They did not have direct deposit, along with a real high turn over rate tells you they do not care about drivers.
There tractors were better than average, but the trailers were beyond description, if I did describe most of them the list would censor the description anyway. -
Being a company driver, i have no clue. I guess it would be between
the company HMFICs and the L/O to figure out. Have not personally
see any L/Os with a new APU installed. Most O/O come on with the
APU already installed.

They have been replacing the oldest trailers with new (both dry and
refer), but it is amazing how fast the new ones get screwed up by
the moron majority who have it in their minds that " its not my
trailer,why take care of it." Plus then you have the other drivers out there that think the same about everyone elses equipment. I doubt
they will ever install APUs on company trucks, drivers are a dime a dozen--who cares? If they whine, we will just get a new one to take
their place.... And yes, there are some pretty crappy trailers in the fleet.......
