I have been driving for just over a year and I have only had a radio for a month. I am beginning to see why some do not want them. My experience thus far is that this radio is primarily used to spout hate, anger, bigotry, racism, transphobia, homophobia, ect. Is the usefulness of this device truly worth dealing with the constant gutter trash of humanity?
It is giving me an even worse view of the trucking population than I already had.
    Just looking for opinions. Thanks.

Put a rubber band on the mic to keep it keyed. This way no one can talk until you're out of range.

It's always been that way. My step-father, who was drivng before CBs, told me the thing about a CBs was the off switch.

I keep it turned down then. There's a few guys around NYC with big radios who do nothing but talk #### all day. Pretty sure they don't even drive.

I keep mine on so I can hear if someone is warning about road conditions, or telling me if something is wrong with my truck, and to do the same for others. But yeah, sometimes you have to turn it down because of jerks, or just other conversations that might annoy you. I still find it useful, and have had a few pleasant conversations too.

Took me 3 years before I finally threw mine out the window.
Haven't bought one in over 20 years.
Don't even know what the buttons on them are
    For anymore.

Two ten year olds have a more educated conversation
That you ever get off of a CB.
You use to be able to get a decent conversation
    Between midnight and 4am.
When all the idiots where asleep, and it was mostly
Old timers out there at night to avoid them.
    Those days are gone too.

    You want to torcher somebody.
Lock them in a room next to a big truck stop
    Or major interstate.
Turn on a CB and leave it on all day.
With 3 days they'll hang themselves.

Some places still use CB you to check in with, I'm not going to let a few idiots ruin the benefit of something that should be required to be in trucks and Be on ,you wouldn't have a hundred truck pile-ups if you did.
