    Watch the Tesla Semi speed around a track in a new testing video

    Tesla released a video of its latest semi truck prototype on a test track. The most interesting part of the announcement is the appointment of Jerome Guillen as the new head of the semi truck division. If that name sounds familiar, it may be because Guillen was in charge of the development of the Cascadia for Daimler/Freightliner.

    Previous prototypes have been routinely seen in California hauling freight for the Fremont Tesla plant.

    Exactly. We don't have the infrastructure even close to be able to support electric vehicles. So it's kind of a non-starter.

    What’s impossible today can be possible tomorrow. There is a LOT of unused generating capacity for long periods every day. If we can put that to use charging vehicles at night, it would make our electricity a good bit cheaper.

    The problem with electric trucks has always been weight versus distance. In order to go further in electric trucks, the battery must be bigger which takes away from the usable drive distance

    Trucks need to be able to go 550-650 miles on a “fueling”. Electric trucks have always had a problem with that. As far as I’m aware there is no new technology and nothing other than wishful thinking that permits them to exceed the 350-ish mile limits they currently have.
