As long as there are no rickity suspension bridges some really heavy dump trucks probably made that road. I wouldn't worry at all. Most weight regulations are there due to somebody screwing something up in the past, like losing brakes going down a hill, or even just NIMBY residents.

 

Watch out around Elwood, I think you need an overweight permit to go through Elwood that's where a lot of the distribution centers are by the rail yards. You're lucky he didn't take you all the way to the one up on 80. Have you noticed most of the weight restriction signs are placed half a mile or a mile down the road ,you can't see them till after you make the turn.

I would ask the mayors office if they approve of this and if he ok’s it ask him to send you a letter stating the hold you harmless of you do it again and something happens.
Or talk to OOIDA they love to straighten things like this out.

 

Could be he is'nt from the area.I was stopped by a local in another small town, in the area, had 2 skids of alum. Tubing, wanted to go to a scale, I did'nt go. He was brought in from another little town to fill in

 

I'm with you on that. I have a few police officers in my family. How are you going to be a good representative of the law & you don't (hypocrite). Then they have this complex I'm always right (you're not). I understand the sign is up there most of the time just to keep trucks off the road so the pavement doesn't get tore up & truck traffic through the neighborhood.
They at times lose it when you question on principles and act like they can't be questioned. My friend just went through that during an inspection. I told him to fight it because the officer was wrong and shut him down on an eld issue.

I'm glad you questioned him. Some if not all of them think they make the laws and have a little man complex.
I've asked a few questions many times and those are, why does a cop get to speed for no reason? Why does he/she not have to use a hands free device when talking on the phone? Why can they type on their computer while passing me? Why they can have a gigh speed chase through a neighborhood in the middle of the day?
The honor of protecting and serving has turned into control and conquer.

 

I miss understood your question, i thought you were asking if your weight was legal, my bad. As far as the officer, you are pretty much at their mercy when it comes to that situation. Kill them with kindness is my motto, and it usually works.
