Switch to flatbed and not worry about detention again?

Send JJ Armes crew over , they could settle these shenanigans post haste.
Why does the driver always get hosed , while the people at the Top are swilling down Mai Tais at there 2nd lake house , cashing there buisness bailout checks.
There dealing from the bottom of the deck with us drivers since 1943.

Instead worry about about tarping with 30 mph winds, while 0 degrees and ice all over your trailer

Yeah but when I show up to drop off my freight the people who unload don't treat me like #### and make wait hours.

you do it by adding it to the rate con before you sign it. if it isn't in the rate con they don't have to pay.

From my understanding, the broker has a contract with the shipper. In that contract is an amount for detention so they have no problem requesting it as it means more $$ in their pocket. I have been told from a previous broker, theirs was $100 an hour after the first two hours. Then they pay (if they pay), the carrier whatever they want ($25 seems to be the norm) and book the rest as profit.

For me, I try to know where I am going, if it will be a problem I figure it into my rate. If there is detention, I will ask for it and hopefully get it. The good ones will reissue a revised rate con right away, others will not. If not, I take the whatever approach, do up an invoice internally for detention at a rate that I am worth and can be substantiated based on my daily average, then write it off as bad debt. Then, I have to decide down the road if I want to work with that broker again. As I have always told my wife, in this industry it is always the driver that gets screwed. :)

Then they tell you all kinds of excuses.
Like we only pay if customer pays and then of course supposedly they never do.

I was paid pretty quick from CHR and TQL when I filed a UCC-1 against them for failure to pay. They still call me about loads but I refuse to haul for them.

The UCC only costs $20 to file. Even after they paid I charged them $150 to have it removed.

Best advice so far. That and building a relationship with a handful of brokers. Been doing pretty much the same 3 runs for the last year and a half. The only time they make it on the board is if we can't cover it. Food DCs are a no go here. Made that mistake once, never agaun
