Looking for a Company with Paid Training in NC

Swift Refrigerated starts a new class every Monday morning.
Contact a recruiter for details. I think the contract is 12 mos., but call to be sure.
This is on the website, so maybe I'm not correct about the contract:

R. E. West Transportation is correct about no contract to sign. I think you're paid hourly while in classroom training.
Not sure how often classes start though. Choice of dry van or flatbed.

Stevens is a solid starter company. They were one of my finalists, and I didn't need the training from them since I got the grant, so I was only looking for a starter company, and after a ton of research (including employee reviews) they were still in the running till the end. In fact, of my top 5 finalists, the last determining factor was distance to a terminal. That's the only reason I went with someone else: my first (and only) application went to the company with the closest terminal.

 

I wouldn’t get too concerned about how far away the training is - it’s less than a month and a small price to pay for a good job with the right company. Driving OTR you typically get 1 day off for every week on the road with minimums - ie. you must take at least four days off at a time - so being away from home for more than a month will be common.

I didn’t see any red flags on your list of options, but I’ll comment on a few:

Only you know what job will best match your needs. If you’re not interested in flatbedding there are plenty of other options.

If you’re talking about Stevens Transport. I trained with them. School is just the first step of many. Orientation has more driving tests and training. I heard something about driving figure 8’s in reverse! They do get reimbursed for one truck wash a month.

Unless they’ve changed it Swift deducts $100/wk from your check for 1 year to cover your training. If you stick around for a second year they pay you that money back at $100/wk. You’re only obligated to stick around for a year though.

There are plenty of reviews on this site of trucking companies READ THEM! Make an informed decision. Paid training is available. @Chinatown will probably have some more options for you.

 

There's advantages to starting in reefer. After a year of reefer, everything else seems like easy mode. And reefer really isnt all that tough anyway. Most of the people who complain about it simply got used to easy mode first, before trying reefer. If you start in reefer, then that can't happen to you.
