I'm on my way to Dalton Gardens Idaho from Aurora CO myself right now, I've got 20k in the box. Weather channel is saying 65-75 mph gusts all the way up to Casper. It's pretty nerve wracking...
Is it rare for high wind to blow a truck over?

I was in Nevada and was shut down by Nevada Highway Patrol, along with about 300 other trucks several years ago.
They were clocking wind gusts, coming down of Battle Mountain at 120 mph.alds Thanks this. -
It's not rare.
What is rare is a driver smart enough to take his reset or time off during a period of NOAA warned high wind zone in which he or she are in or next to that day or night. Generally Nature takes it's course and the winds go bye bye before too long.
I try to be loaded with a box or reefer everytime doing battle with storm winds. Some bridges like CBBT near norfolk require you to have a certain weight until a total ban at 65 mph. That is a ocean crossing and NO joke. Im dead serious about that one.
In flat bed I have about a hundred more bungee cords to hang onto the tarp with that covered wagon which turns into a horrible bubble in bad winds, Lubbock-Armarillo comes to mind. Then it tries to strip panels and bend the rods and make a mockery of the load you have inside of it.Hollywoodsaint Thanks this. -
That part of the interstate will make a man out a boy and separate the real truck drivers from the wannabes
No matter how many times I have driven it....ELK MOUNTAIN scares the bejeebers out of me!SoulScream84 Thanks this. -
It’s not uncommon, it just takes the right gust to hit that one truck and you are going over. Most modern Trucking GPS’s will tell you when there is high winds also the side of the road will tell you buy how much the grass and small trees are moving.

Being in Wyoming it shuts down the freeway dozens of times a year. Would be less common if people could decide to slow down or stop when in high winds.
