I know there are threads here for air dryers and purge valves (either together or separate) but you never see any issues resolved, really. So...this thread is only to relate *my* experience with the leaky purge valve.
I replaced my entire air dryer because I had unwittingly neglected to change the cannister for a couple years and thought, "cool, problem solved." Nope! After being scared a couple times by pressure building to 150psi, the dryer decided to switch things up and not build air at all. Purge valve leaking. Plug hole with finger, leak stops, hit the road. Do the same thing every day for a week and then the trick doesn't work anymore. Valve just keeps leaking like an old man with prostate problems. MHC say bring in the entire setup for warranty replacement but there's no affiliate near me. Screw it...Bosselman changed out just the purge valve (because I was aggravated and didn't want to make matters worse in haste) and found the valve inside my brand new dryer had not been lubricated. It kept binding in the housing, I guess.
New, properly lubed valve installed and problem went away (for now). Yes, it cost more than finding an MHC to exchange dryers with but it was cheaper than losing all my air on the road.
This is just my experience, yours may vary.
