Sounds like ranchers want their cake and eat it too. But then they cry like babies to the government when it doesn't work out as planned.

If you've ever watched videos of Gabe Brown speaking, that's where I got the calving in spring thing. He also doesn't make hay for the winter... his cattle graze in the winter - in Bismark, ND.

Farming and ranching is a tough business and yep like trucking its filled with risk , not saying it's right or wrong.
And the central plains is known for heavy March snows so I see what you are saying but I don't run a cow calve herd ...just what I see is all .
When I first moved from north dakota to omaha in 91 we had a very mild winter and an early spring, my wife was from omaha and it was March....
70 degrees and dry , I was waxing cars and doing yard work getting ready for summer as my wife laughed at me .
Sure enuff a week later we got about a foot of snow .

On a different note I couldn't believe what I saw today leaving the yard and I get it because we are pressed for space but broke my heart lol .
2 pick up loads of carrier apu,s with perfectly good engines in various states of damage going to scrap ...hours 14 to 17k from what I saw .
    What a waste!
I've maintained the hell out of mine and at 15k runs like new and looks new.

A lot of people calve this time of year so that it doesn’t interfere with spring field work and planting.

Posted it on another thread to but found out today that outfit in omaha that I leased a truck from in 2015 and 2016 for a year I ran cattle hides to Laredo with received notice from Nebraska carrier enforcement they are coming for an audit of logs and equipment inspections.
They were decent people so won't name them but totally outside of legality, the owner didn't like me cause I wouldn't run outlaw or junk and I knew this was coming someday so when the lease was up I said goodbye .
I still have a good friend who is leased there and nothing has changed since my departure.
This will be a blood bath !
