That's fair, thanks for the information Steve. Personally it's always been a bucket list job for me to drive a yank big rig for a few years at least, drove tow trucks & distribution straight trucks here (Scotland), but have been stuck in an office job over covid, which has kind of spurred me to chase the dream a bit, pay is something of a factor, you guys get around twice what we do for OTR.
I know you say wait for the election, what do you foresee happening after? Do you think the Republicans will push to continue the immigration shutdown, I do remember some murmerings that Trump was wanting to streamline the migration process somewhat for other English speaking 1st world countries during the last election, but I don't remember seeing anything come of that? I assume the Democrats would make the process easier for everyone?

I would love to drive a truck in Scotland for a few years.
Ever seen an American driver over there?
I would love to drive overseas for a while, anyone know of any opportunities ? -
In the UK we run a points based immigration system, similar to Australia, imo simpler than the US. You get near enough a free ticket if you have a commonwealth citizenship (Aus, NZ, Canada etc). I think there's a bit of a catch 22 here for American drivers, we do have drivers listed as a shortage occupation, but if I recall correctly you need to hold a truck (C or C+E) licence in an EU homogolated country for >3 years to be considered a viable truck driver, if I recall correctly, Canadian CDLs count, but not American.
As per pay, making over £20-30k ($25-40kish) here is difficult, there's something of a £30-35k ceiling on most practical professions outside of financial services, that being said, we tend to have a 50-60 hour week (up to 56hrs a week, and 90hrs per 2 week driving) , my understanding is that you guys can run up to 70, but tend to make $40-80k?
Personally I'd love to drive around Colorado, or Alaska, I have some family in Texas and absolutely love it there, love American culture, just want a gun collection & a pickup truck, live the dream.Cobrakaiguy, The Crossword Trucker and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
