Why do truckers creative park when there are tons of open spaces?

I've seen it often and haven't a clue why. In example, just now had a guy pull up and park next to the curb. I'm parked on the end of the row, but next to me are 6 empty spots and it looks like 2 of them could even be pull through. I understand when no spots are left, but when there's a plethora of open spots, why do some truckers just ignore them and creative park. I really have no understanding of why.

 

OK. I can see that (I'm a reefer jockey myself, so not an issue to me). Actually, I'll park next to a running reefer anyday over parking next to an old longnose. Only time I've ever moved spots because of noise was when I parked next to an old clanking and loud longnose.
Also thought it could possibly minimize risk of another truck dinging their's when parking or pulling out next to them.
It just seems kinda stupid to me, when there are lots of open spaces to be had.

I guess stupid wasn't a good choice of words. Perplexing or nonsensical might have been better. Didn’t mean it in any malicious manner.

 

IDK, I've always like the word quintessential for such situations!

And, I'm actually more of a math and science person than an English genus. I'm much better versed in Schrodinger's uncertainty principle and Feynman diagrams than correctly using present perfect tense. That said, my previous occupation sometimes required me to elucidate somewhat complicated concepts in various technical matters with penned narrative.
