A Poky native? Or perhaps just an Idaho guy? The Jackson's??? I don't even consider it a truck stop. 20 stalls, mostly full of dropped trailers or trucks parked for hometime, 2 showers and a roller grill. Nope, definitely not a truck stop.;)
The new Maverick on S. 5th will be a large travel stop with truck/rv lanes, but I don't think it will be much in the way of overnight parking. Hopefully I'm wrong.

No, no place to park, but at least another place to fuel locally.

Kinda sad state of affairs, really. If you search this site, there's some real cool stories from old timers about the old Cowboy Oil truck stop.

I've always thought someone should build a stop across from the Simplot plant, next to the tank farm. Direct pipe the fuel from the tank farm to the truck stop: no need for either transporting the fuel by truck, or expensive underground storage and monitoring systems. Costco does that at their fuel station in South San Francisco near the airport. Cheapest fuel around!

And, yes, Poky resident (if not native).

My dad grew up in Pocatello as well. In the 70's, while in high school, he used to hang out here and drink cofee on an occasional Saturday night with friends. Sometimes, during the dinner rush, the owner would kindly ask them to leave so that hungry drivers would have a seat when they would stop in for meals. I guess it got pretty busy. I have vague memories of this place, before it was bulldozed.
It sat right near where the new Maverick is.

A few years back, I had a route that took me into Pecos TX a couple times a week.
I counted 13 places on Bus. 20 (old Hwy 80) that used to be gas/service stations.
That was just that road, not hwy 285, not Hwy 17, or any side street.

My current run had 4 full service truck stops 40 years ago. None of those exist any longer. The demographics of truck drivers has changed significantly the past 20 years

    snowlauncher Thanks this.

I remember full service truck stops. Somebody to fuel your truck, check the oil, bump the tires. They'd even park it for you if you wanted. Good food, waitresses that knew how to handle a crowd of rowdies, and decent prices.
Disputes were settled with fists, not guns.
I started in the late 60s and a truck stop then usually had everything a driver needed.
And, by that, I mean everything. ;)

It relates to drivers that like to dump pee bottles in the lot (or simply step out of the truck and pee directly), garbage and litter everywhere but in the trash can, park anywhere that blocks other drivers in, and any number of bad things.

They are not road brothers and sisters... they are "Disgusting stupid people".

    Get a clue!
