What's your story?

I am an IT fall out. I got into a vivid argument with a coworker and I was officially terminated for "Disorderly behavior at a work place". Heck, with that on my resume, I could not hope for a better job than at Werner. But, quite frankly, I always tried to find an excuse to jump out of that darn cubicle and do whatever else...I was even envious about a cab drivers' job.

 

My story is pretty much like Superman's story. If you just watch the movie that's kind of how it all happened for me. i made Jorel (that's my dad) really proud. Everybody back on Krypton is proud too.


Also, i hate time clocks. I really hate time clocks.

 

Family thing on my dad's side. Grandpa was O/O, died a few yrs before i was born. My dad bought his 1st truck from him in 82, a 1971 Mack F700. Didn't know what i wanted to do after school so at 21 i got my license. That was Dec 2014. At the time my dad didn't have a truck for the last 10+ years and was working in the oilfield as a company driver. Slowed up and bought the truck in my avatar in 2016 and 2017-18 got another truck and the rest his history. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Ran food service for my 1st gig then oilfield. My dad's retiring partially in a few years and stepping down, not totally but he'll be behind the scenes

 

Trucker by accident here I guess, I dunno, at least I never intended to be a full time driver.

Grew up on a fairly large hog/crop farm. Dad bought our first truck when I was 12 or so. International transtar II cabover. Hated that thing, pile of junk. Swore I'd never drive it. So a few days after I turned 18 I got my CDL. Long story short I went from full time farmer to full time driver over the last 10 years or so. Pulled hopper bottom to belly dump then livestock and now hauling pig feed full time running my own truck and trailer. Making good money and I'm home everyday but I'm bored and kinda sick of it. I miss the farming and being able to do different things everyday and having to actually think and use my brain and muscle. Current job requires very little of either. I work a ton of hours and almost every weekend have to spend a little time on the truck or trailer.

I've never had a real job and honestly a job that offers paid vacation and the ability to forget about it once you clock out sounds rather appealing. But I'm almost 40 years old with no other skill set other than being a fast learner so finding a job with great pay doesn't seem very likely. When its 30 below and snowing an office job sounds pretty great. But as others have said a real job often requires working with other people and my patience for that is pretty thin.

 

My folks had a little truckin company. Pulled reefers, cattle and end dumps. I wasn’t supposed to go truckin, they wanted me to get an education and make something of myself........I been educated in the trucking business no doubt.
