I was going to comment on how I imagined that combo made turns.

And I'm learning in 2021 why I hated the "new" changes that were coming with these new emission systems. Bought me a '13 model and every ounce of maintenance is going into the aftertreatment. Hate to necro this old thread, but your comment is relevant. I'll be looking to buy another truck within a year or so and will be looking for that old block if you know what I mean.

If that trailer is on air ride I’d put a dump valve on the back axle, make turning a little easier.

I feel you pain. Had to do a 3 point turn today just to get out of the building.

Saw y’all on Hwy 114 x 377 going into Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex on Saturday morning @Old Man . Hauling some huge plastic wrapped conglomeration on the snazzy trailer. Looking good!

That was me. Piece was 14’4” on ground, loaded height 15’2”.
unloaded Saturday am . A broker truck loaded the same piece on a stretch DD was 16’3” tall, left when I did and had called customer and said he was in far west Kansas and would be there Wednesday. We started in central Iowa.
He took the load for $1500 less than me, got a expensive education on tall loads.

Met one of our drivers last week, he told about his lesson, found a 30k load in California going back east, after the chp escorts, waiting a week for them plus all the other police and private escorts and permits he lost money.
    Hard lessons.

    Blair/Oldman,

First, you guys are fantastic to watch and to learn from. Thanks for all you put into the site.

You both have older Peterbilts and non-DEF engines. I was wondering if you ever have issues with having to turn down loads, due to emissions regs or customer's preferences. Thinking about buying a 2005 379 but trying to check all my traps.

What you guys do is very interesting to me and I wish I knew a lot more.

How exactly does the extra foot and one inch affect him compared to you? How many escort vehicles did you have? What permits did you need? What’s all of that cost? Where do you park? When you park what do the escort vehicles do?

Or if anyone else can chime in that would be appreciated.

    p608 and blairandgretchen Thank this.
