I think Edmonton's traffic circles date from the '50s or '60s, but many were replaced in the '80s/'90s?
Traffic circles work great when everybody knows the rules...
(I've lost count of the number of times I've had to avoid contact)
Now we have a diverging diamond intersection in Calgary.
And heaven help us if we try to exceed to one of the many multi-lane (4+) traffic circles as is commonly found in Europe or Asia, or England's Seven Circles of Hell Magic Roundabout.

My old skull hasn't been able to absorb the advantage in it, from the ground level anyway. Really not interested in trying to figure it out. Looks like an experimental prototype project.
Sort of reminds me of the screwed up, short on off ramps and merge lanes on the Deerfoot 500. -
Started in Europe in the Seventies and there are a bunch in the US, but the only one I have been through is in south Cheyenne, WY, over I-25 by the Flying J and Loves. So easy even truck drivers can do it.
