Leasing with your own authority

    To the op,

    Yes you can have a second truck and an authority with one truck.

    I do this, I have one company that has a mix of trucks and leases.

    Really simple, there is no requirement by FMCSA that says you have to have all trucks owned by you or your company operate under the same authority, leasing is in effect using one authority for interstate operation and you can have multiple leases with many companies.

    that said the problem can be insurance, not saying that you cant have both trucks under the same policy, it just depends what the insurance policies are for this situation.

    $3500??? For your own authority insurance?? That's a steal. Its between $15 - 20k a year in Mass.

    To be fair that's for the truck. The company I pull for pays trailer insurance and I haul stone so cargo insurance is minimal. You wanna lease on? Lol
