Yeah that has to be it, he got in there fine but wasn't paying enough attention when he tried to back out because there's no way that trailer came up from down there.

I think a lot of the problem is complacency, stress response and wishful thinking.

People get complacent and don't trip plan and don't read signs. I see people make turns all the time that are clearly marked no semis.

Then they get stressed out and revert to their monkey brain which doesn't make rational decisions.

Then they keep going just hoping they can somehow make it through.

Complacency is one of the greatest challenges in this job.

I wouldn’t *TRUST* a GPS to find grass on a golf course.

Few years back I went to work for SRT, they said use their navigation on the qualcomm. So it tells me to make a left turn on state route so and so. I looked and it was a dirt road, well I went straight found a place to pull over, called dispatch and said from here on out I will be using my truck GPS.
A few months later I pull into the yard and I see a brand new truck covered in mud with the bumper sitting on the fifth wheel.
Even a driver at my current company did the same thing and drove onto a dirt road and got stuck.
The worst I ever did was drive into the wrong entrance of a warehouse and have to back out.

I blindly followed a GPS about 15 years ago and found myself staring at a 10 foot high railroad bridge while driving a 12’6” bus. Thank goodness for my passengers group leader, who got out and directed traffic around us while I got the bus turned around!

Since then, I never just jump in and drive, trusting the GPS. Not a #### thing wrong with using Google Maps if you take a few minutes to make sure it’s not trying to kill you!

Especially when driving into Los Angeles. Use common sense and a good look at the map
